The face the Story
For this project I sought to produce a series of photographs of people from the older generation, (over 70), and to document narratively some of the important aspects of their life.
Society today is bombarded with pictures of ‘youth’. Young, trendy, fashionable men and women with their beautiful faces, stylish hair, makeup and cool clothes.
The elderly are rapidly becoming the forgotten generation. We walk past them in the street without a second glance and without a thought for who they are or what they may have done or achieved in their life. Yet each and every one us carries within us our very own story to tell. We are all unique individuals and we all have our own private, or public, moments that we are proud of or else things we have done or not done that we live to regret. Elderly people of course have had so much longer to weave their rich tapestry and for this reason their stories can be so much more enigmatic and interesting. Aesthetically, older faces also contain so much more interest and detail, etched by years of 'living' and 'experience'.
This is just a selection of the people I photographed. Apart from Bram I had not met any of them prior to this project. They were all absolutely fantastic, they were warm and understanding and extremely helpful.
